Digital healthcare group WhiteCoat opens regional headquarters in Singapore

It currently operates in Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam; and works with a network of more than 1,000 health and wellness providers comprising general practitioners, specialists, allied healthcare professionals and pharmacies to provide digital health services to more than 1.5 million people in the region.

The group is looking to expand further into new markets in the region, such as Malaysia and Thailand, and will be enhancing its offerings by providing specialist care and mental wellness services.

New SCDF firefighting suit reduces heat stress, improves flame protection

Firefighters responding to emergency calls will progressively be equipped with new, more durable suits that offer better protection from extreme heat.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) unveiled the khaki Firefighting Protective Suit (FFPS) in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Feb 1).

The new suits have "highly breathable" fabric layers that reduce heat stress and improve flame protection to enhance safety, while being more durable due to its increased abrasion resistance.

Construction of Elias station on Cross Island Line-Punggol Extension to start in Q2 2023

Construction works for Elias station and tunnels along the upcoming Cross Island Line-Punggol Extension (CPe) are expected to start in the second quarter of 2023, with service to start in 2032, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Monday (Jan 30).

The 7.3km-long CPe comprises four stations - Punggol, Riviera, Elias and Pasir Ris - which will "provide better rail connectivity and greater accessibility" for those living in eastern and north-eastern areas, said LTA in a news release, adding that "more than 40,000 households are expected to benefit".

Wet and cool weather to ease in first half of February, more sunshine expected: Met Service

Warmer days and more sunshine are expected over the coming fortnight, with the wet and cool weather experienced over the Chinese New Year period gradually easing, the Meteorological Service Singapore (Met Service) said on Wednesday (Feb 1).

During the first half of February, the daily temperature is expected to range between 24 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius on most days. Temperatures may reach around 34 degrees Celsius on days when there is less cloud cover.

SMU Research on Digital Sustainability Receives Recognition at the FT Responsible Business Education Awards 2023

New research from Singapore Management University (SMU) titled ‘Digital Sustainability and Entrepreneurship: How Digital Innovations Are Helping Tackle Climate Change and Sustainable Development’ has received global recognition at the Financial Times (FT) Responsible Business Education Awards 2023.

Conducted by Simon Schillebeeckx and Ryan K. Merrill from SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business, and former dean Professor Gerard George, this new study was amongst a list of research generated by global business schools, that received commendation by FT for its real-world impact. SMU is the only Singaporean university with research that has been acknowledged within this category of the Awards.
