CPLC Singapore powers up LowCarbonSG to incentivise environmentally aware firms

Singapore Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu announced the launch of LowCarbonSG during the annual summit on corporate sustainability on 26 October.
LowCarbonSG is a capability-building programme to enable local businesses in Singapore to start monitoring and, where possible, reduce their carbon emissions. The 18-month programme is led by Carbon Pricing Leadership Coalition (CPLC) Singapore, the decarbonisation arm of Global Compact Network Singapore.
To date, CPLC Singapore has engaged 152 companies and upskilled 247 staff in emissions awareness and knowledge.

Singapore 2nd most competitive amongst wealth management centres

Singapore ranked second in terms of competitiveness in the latest edition of the International Wealth Management Centre Ranking.
The country’s rank remained unchanged from 2018. The number one in competitiveness and overall rankings was Switzerland.
Deloitte, which made the study, said Singapore is particularly highly competitive in the mass affluent and high-net-worth segments.
Deloitte said Singapore is also in an advantageous position, especially with the continued growth of wealth in the Asian region, which then leads to further development of Asian international finance centres.
Overall, the wealth management market grew to 10.6%, the highest recorded since the past decade.

Singapore opens VTLs to Australia and Switzerland

Singapore will extend the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) scheme to Australia and Switzerland for entry into Singapore from 8 November as part of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore's (CAAS) to reclaim and rebuild the country's status as an international aviation hub with global connectivity.
Under the VTL, fully vaccinated travellers from these countries may enter Singapore without quarantine and only need to undergo COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing. Children aged 12 years and below who are not vaccinated will be allowed to travel under the VTL into Singapore if they are accompanied by a VTL traveller who meets all VTL requirements.

Clean energy companies will co-sponsor students for power-sector scholarship from next year

From next year, clean energy companies will, for the first time, sponsor engineering students for the Energy-Industry Scholarship (EIS) here.
This means that some of next year's batch of scholarship recipients and future cohorts will be posted to clean energy companies after completing their studies at polytechnics or the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).
Launched in 2014, the EIS has been co-funded by traditional power-sector firms such as Singapore Power and Senoko Energy, as well as the Energy Market Authority (EMA).
With green energy companies coming on board the scholarship programme, it will help to ensure an adequate manpower pipeline and a competent workforce to support the country's energy transition, said EMA on Friday.

ST Engineering, univerities pioneer research collaboration model

ST Engineering announced its partnership with the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) and A*STAR in a first of its kind research collaboration model.
Research Translation @ ST Engineering, the model is designed to allow for the construction of multi-disciplinary teams, comprising partner researchers and ST Engineering technology and engineering teams in the same collaborative space to enable academia and practitioner engagements. This would foster a stronger working relationship between ST Engineering and its partners to drive impactful translational research that meets fast-evolving market needs and customer demands.
