The XVI cross-cultural online festival “St. Petersburg Theatre Seasons” was broadcast in Singapore in the Singapore-based Foreign Promotion Center

Russia-Singapore Business Council (RSBC) and Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in the Republic of Singapore broadcast performances within online festival “St. Petersburg Theatre Seasons” in the Singapore-based Foreign Promotion Center of Russian high-tech companies and presentation of investment projects.

The annual online festival “St. Petersburg Theatre Seasons” was held from September 20 to 24, 2022 with the support of the St. Petersburg Government Committee for Culture. The event is meant to build and develop cultural ties between the theater capital of Russia, St. Petersburg and other cities and art centers all over the world, including Singapore.

Every year the festival shows the most interesting performances of St. Petersburg theaters, and the audience gets acquainted with their creators. These days three performances were presented in Singapore in the Foreign Promotion Center: King Lear directed by Lev Erenburg – Studio Theatre “Nebolshoi Drama Theatre”; Wolves and sheep directed by Andrzej Buben – Baltic House Theatre-Festival; and Uncle Vanya directed by E. Serzin – Saint Petersburg “Priut komedianta” theatre. Staged performances have caused indescribable emotions and feelings of heartache for the fate of the characters.

The Deputy Chairman - Executive Director of RSBC Sergey Pronin stated that local viewers were impressed by the Russian productions. “Nowadays, Russian theatrical and film productions arouse considerable interest abroad, especially in Asia. The annual Russian Film Week held by the RSBC can also serve as a successful example. It is obvious that the growth of interest in Russian culture is steadily increasing, and business relations and contacts are being strengthened through cultural interaction,” said Sergey Pronin.

Online broadcasting of festivals and the possibility of using digital platforms, including the Singapore based Foreign Promotion Center, significantly expands the geography of the festival. People from all over the world can get acquainted with Russian culture and its features. This fact directly affects the process of people’s intercultural communication.

The representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Singapore Alexandr Soloviev shared his opinion about successful performances: “The implementation of joint cultural projects is an excellent tool for the development of international cultural, humanitarian and business cooperation with the South-East Asia. The Republic of Singapore is a home to Russian compatriots, representatives of creative professions and ordinary residents who admire Russian culture. Consequently, cultural interaction is a priority and a very fruitful vector of mutual cooperation”.

Thanks to the joint organization of cultural events, Russia-Singapore Business Council and Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in the Republic of Singapore jointly strengthen a favorable image of Russia in Singapore, promote intercultural communication in the Asian region and advance Russian interests abroad in the field of culture, science and education.
